Beneath the Stars by Emily McIntire is the first book in the Sugarlake series. This is a second chance romance story following Alina Carson and Chase Adams from their first time meeting and when they are adults.

Alina Carson was 11 years old when she first met Chase. Chase and his sister Lily moved three houses down with their foster parents. Alina really wanted to be friends with them. Once they started to be around each other more she was starting to break down Chases walls and developed feelings for him.

Chase Adams and his sister Lily were new to the town since they were being fostered by Sam and Anna Carson. Chase did not want to be there and was always fighting with them because he really just wanted to be with his mom. He never fully tried to accept his situation. Chase meets Alina and he starts getting feelings for her but of course he feels like he is not good enough for her.

When Alina and Chase finally decide they want to be together it was really rough because Chase never felt like he was good enough. When tragedy strikes it ends their relationship.

Years later they are forced to be around each other again and it’s hard to fight the feelings that they both still have.

I rated this book a 4/5 stars. I think for my first second chance romance it was really good. I liked that we could see their relationship throughout the years. I’m glad that they both were thinking things through and had people they could talk to. I liked that we were introduced the characters who we are going to be focusing on during the rest of the series. I’m glad that we get sneak peeks and that makes me want to continue with the series.
